If you’re anything like us, you’ve been trying to keep up on the highly publicised defamation trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.

In a nutshell, Depp is claiming that Heard lied when she accused him of hitting her, seeking $50 million in damages for the harm she caused to his career.

The trial has unveiled some dark truths behind the celebrity relationship and has become a fierce battleground, seeing them both accuse each other of domestic abuse in what was clearly a turbulent marriage.

Depp told jurors that shortly after his mother died, he called Heard to let her know and also told her he was going to file for divorce.

“I decided to call Amber and tell her that my mom had died that day. I said, ‘Look, I’ve made a decision and I think it’s the best thing. I’m going to file for divorce.’”

This occurred while Heard was at the music festival Coachella, therefore Depp told jurors that he headed to their penthouses to collect his belongings before she returned.

But when Depp arrived, the security guard told him it ‘wasn’t a good time’ and proceeded to show him a photo of fecal matter on his side of the bed.

Depp was then asked whether the faecal matter belonged to their dog, which Heard claims, to which he responded “I lived with those dogs for many years,” he said.

“It was clear. That did not come from a dog. It just didn’t.”

Depp testified that in 2015, while the couple were in Australia for the filming of one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Heard threw a glass bottle at him, severing his finger off.

He claims that Heard became enraged when she found out he was drinking and threw two bottles of vodka at him, severing his finger,

Blood was pouring out,” he said. “I think I went into some sort of … I don’t know what a nervous breakdown feels like, but that’s probably the closest that I’ve ever been. Nothing made sense.

While the court was shown a photo of Depp in hospital with the injury, it jogged his memory of another injury Heard had caused.

“I see a detail that I’d forgotten which is the… Ms Heard had taken my cigarette from the ash tray and stomped it out in my face,” he said.

While Heard denied both of the allegations, Depp continued to explain that he lied to medical staff at the hospital because he didn’t want Heard to get in trouble for the injury.

During the trial, Depp explained that he suspected Heard was having an affair with James Franco, who she co-starred with in the 2015 film, ‘The Adderall Diaries’. He also believes that Heard had an affair with billionaire Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, during their marriage.

In the footage shown from Depp’s defence, Heard is pictured in an elevator with Franco and Musk in only a blanket. She shows physical affection to Musk and does the same with Franco but mildly, proving that she was unfaitful to Depp.

Musk and Franco were asked to testify at the trial but it seems unlikely that they will show.

The trial eventually delved into Depp’s history of addiction and his attempts to detoxify from drugs.

Depp’s doctor David Kipper recalled his time spent with the Pirates of the Caribbean star as the actor attempted to “detoxify from his substance abuse” while engaged to Heard.

Kipper claims that Depp was under the influence of alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines and stimulants.

Depp was then questioned about his claim of sobriety when filling out insurance forms for Pirates of the Caribbean 5 (Dead Men Tell No Tales).

According to the defence attorney, Depp lied on his insurance form, referring to incidents that occurred within the previous 18 months.
