The mother of all festivals has returned after a hiatus of 5 years. Hibiscus Festival is set to kickstart tomorrow in the capital city, Suva. The festival will go on until the 7th of September with exciting performances and events lined up over the entire course of the affair.
Tomorrow, locals can witness the opening of the Hibiscus Village which will be situated on the Suva foreshore. This historic moment will take place at 12 midday. The National Archives of Fiji will be open to the public at Civic Centre along with the Fiji Arts Artisan Council Tents.
The roads along the infamous Victoria Parade will be closed off to outside vehicles at 2pm to cater for the much anticipated Hibiscus Festival Opening Parade. The procession will be lead by the ecstatic RFMF band and followed by the 2024 Queen contestants. They will first begin their journey from the Suva Flea Market at 4pm then make their way to Suva Foreshore.
The Official Opening Ceremony is scheduled for 6pm on the Main Stage of the Hibiscus Village. The students of Adi Cakobau School will perform a cultural item. Afterwards, the crowd will be addressed by His Excellency The President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere who will conduct the introductory speech for the festival.
Attendees will then see the esteemed local artist, Kuki take the main stage from 8pm where he will perform a collection of his music, combining new with old & covers with originals before Day 1 comes to a close. It is also expected that he will perform music from his latest album titled Adi Senitoa, which was created as an homage to the Hibiscus Festival. The album also features other local artists under the Resonance umbrella that will be performing throughout the gathering.
