The Suva City Council is investigating a recent amusement ride malfunction at the Miss Hibiscus Festival. The Council conducts daily safety checks to ensure all rides meet required standards. If a ride is found non-compliant, it will be closed until it meets safety requirements, according to Festival Committee Chairman Opetaia Ravai.
The ride involved in the incident has been shut down pending further inspection. The Festival Committee reassures the public that all rides underwent routine maintenance and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) checks. A thorough investigation is underway to prevent future incidents.
The Committee emphasizes their commitment to a safe and positive festival experience and apologizes to those affected. Despite the incident, the Miss Hibiscus Festival continues with scheduled events, including today’s touch rugby tournament and evening performances from renowned Resonance artists.
