Last week in Fiji, movie superstars Chris Hemsworth and Matt Damon lent their star power to support the incredible work being done by Coral Gardeners. Hemsworth and Damon were in Fiji to help celebrate Coral Gardeners’ first year of operations in the region.
Coral Gardeners, a non-profit founded in 2017 on Mo’orea, the sister island of Tahiti in French Polynesia, was started by a group of young surfers, freedivers, and fishermen who were moved to action by the heartbreaking decline of their local reef.
With a mission to revolutionize ocean conservation, Coral Gardeners aim to spark a global movement to save the world’s coral reefs through active restoration, educational outreach, and innovative solutions developed by their CG labs.
To date, they have planted over 100,000 corals in French Polynesia and Fiji. The presence of Hemsworth and Damon in Fiji last week highlighted the critical work Coral Gardeners are doing to restore our oceans and coral reefs.
The stars joined Coral Gardeners in marking the one-year anniversary of their Fiji branch, participating in coral planting alongside Ted and Michele Waitt and other supporters. The event was a powerful reminder of the collective effort needed to restore our oceans, one coral at a time.
