The official list of extra sports for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) includes baseball/softball, cricket (T20), flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made the decision in its 141st session.

The IOC’s Olympic Programme Commission (OPC) and Executive Board (EB) examined and approved the five sports that the LA28 Organising Committee had suggested as a package for their particular Games.

While flag football and squash will be making their Olympic debuts in Los Angeles, baseball/softball, cricket, and lacrosse will all be returning to the Games.

“The choice of these five new sports is in line with the American sports culture and will showcase iconic American sports to the world while bringing international sports to the United States. These sports will make the Olympic Games LA28 unique,” said IOC President Thomas Bach.

He continued to state that the sole reason behind this was to create inclusivity of more sports and to encourage young athletes to participate in the prestigious event.

The IOC Session endorsed the IOC EB’s recommendations on the status of weightlifting and modern pentathlon, which were not included in the original LA28 sports program.
