The third write up with a bit of a twist. Like many brands I’ve taken the approach to ride on a popular term or slang to make things more interesting. If you are new here, this is basically me giving my opinion on certain events that happen in Fiji. If the need arises, we can do a commentary about things of the world as yours’ truly is not well versed (Yet) we shall put a pin on it.

This week’s talanoa is about the end of a long drought in Sevens, is education still the key to success? And the Moana drama.

The drought is over

The Desert of Dubai was the perfect location for a redemption story. After the long winless seasons, the hype was back on Sevens rugby. As the old saying goes, all good things come to those who wait, and oh, did the good things fall… right into the into laps.

We saw the boys play a style of rugby that saw us dominate most the Sevens scenes for a better part of a decade. The fitness was on par (Well over Par tbh), the defense stood tall, and all our debutants were firing on all cylinders.

This was a start that we all wanted, no the start we needed.

Fiji is back to doing Fiji things, Champion things.

Is Education still the key to success

A recent report has revealed a concerning statistic: 6,000 Year 8 students failed their external exams, While the numbers may seem overwhelming Failing exams often results from a combination of challenges. For many students, limited access to resources, such as textbooks, technology, or quiet study environments, can hinder their ability to succeed. Others may grapple with personal issues like health problems or family difficulties that distract from their studies.

Failing exams at a young age can significantly affect a student’s confidence and motivation, creating a cycle of disengagement. This can lead to higher dropout rates and fewer opportunities for these individuals in the long term.

For society, it underscores the risk of a less prepared workforce and wider social inequities. But the question is…… are we doing all we can for the next generation, are we giving them all the tools needed to be a success in today’s fast paced environment. In today’s world our kids see things from a different scope, what used to work for us to learn might not be the case for the kids right now. Today’s world is so visual and creative that maybe it’s time to tap into a different style of not only teaching but learning.

Education is a cornerstone of a thriving community. Let’s ensure it’s a foundation every child can build upon. For our kids THIS IS NOT WHAT DEFINES YOU!!! Kids and Parents, we still have a lot more school left and all we need to do is put our shoulders to the wheel and push.

Moana Drama

This sequel gave us so much promise and the Pasifika family were ready to be chosen but the ocean. Even though this was a children animation the critics were out. Like everything in the world there is good and bad. Unfortunately, in this case the bad reviews have cause some much discord.

No spoilers!! The general mood on movie was “with inclusion comes confusion”. Basically, to some people thought Moana was dark, all we can assume is that the tone of the movie had more intense themes, along with the color saturation being dark. (It’s giving “Snyder Cut”) Some movie goers were confused with introduction of the Melanesian and Micronesian delegation. According to the critics the whole plot it was weak. On the Plus side the whole it looks like the whole of Pasifika is represented.
