After looking at this list, one thing become clear – usually, the biggest song of the year goes diamond.
So, get ready for a nostalgic look over music for the last decade or two.
First up is ‘The Hills’ by the Weeknd – yep the song that basically filled every nightclub floor in 2015 was officially certified diamond in 2019, and is still a classic.
Next is the song that had us in floods of tears at the cinema after Fast and Furious 7 – ‘See You Again’ by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth, which was certified a few years later in 2019.
‘Bodak Yellow’ also reached an incredible milestone in 2021, making Cardi B the first female rapper to ever have a diamond-certified single.
Fifth on the list takes us back to the 70s with Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
The incredible hit wasn’t certified diamond until 2021, which just shows the kind of staying power the song has.
‘Havana’ by Camila Cabello was certified in the same year, along with Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Base’.
The list also includes ‘Life Is Good’ by Future featuring Drake, ‘Girls Like You’ by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B, ‘That’s What I Like’ by Bruno Mars, ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ by Gotye featuring Kimbra, ‘Stressed Out’ by Twenty One Pilots as well as ‘Bad Romance’ by Lady Gaga, ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ by Foster the People and ‘Something About the Way You Look Tonight / Candle in the Wind’ by Elton John, which became the first-ever song to hit platinum back in October 1997.
Oh and of course ‘Baby Shark’ by Pinkfong also made it up there, which absolutely doesn’t surprise us. After all, that song – despite its flaws – is incredibly catchy. Baby shark do, do, do, do, do.
