Former One Direction singer Liam Payne died at age 31 after falling from the balcony of his hotel room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, October 16.
Local authorities confirmed that Payne “jumped from the balcony,” and police arrived at the scene shortly after 5 p.m., where he was pronounced dead.
Alberto Crescenti, head of Buenos Aires’ emergency medical services, stated that Payne sustained a fatal skull fracture from the fall.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances, with an autopsy pending.
According to translated reports from outlets such as Sky News and BBC, the hotel’s chief receptionist had contacted emergency services, expressing concern over Payne’s erratic behavior.
