Dorothy and Tim Walter, aged 103 and 102, recently celebrated 81 years of marriage, attributing their long-lasting union to one simple rule: “We never argue.”
The couple met at 18 during World War II while building planes in a Southampton factory. Three years later, they tied the knot and began a life filled with shared adventures.
“We agree, we discuss, we don’t row,” said Dorothy, recalling how Tim would cycle to see her after work. “He took me to the pictures, and that was it.”
After the war, the Walters farmed in Elmstone for 32 years and later travelled Europe by boat. They lived independently until the age of 101, moving into a care home last year.
The couple, now residing in Wingham, Kent, have a growing family that includes two daughters, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Reflecting on their journey, Dorothy said, “We can’t believe it’s been 81 years.”
