After announcing plans to add a contentious breast milk-infused coffee to its menu, a cafe in the Russian city of Perm has drawn a lot of attention.
After announcing plans to utilize genuine human breast milk as an ingredient for coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, the Perm-based café chain Coffee Smile has been the talk of the Russian internet for the past week.
When Coffee Smile outlets began plastering ads touting the contentious new ingredient, the hysteria began earlier this month. Social media users began posting images of the photos, and soon after, local entrepreneur and owner of Coffee Smile Maxim Kobelev created a promotional film announcing that his cafés will be using real breast milk kept in special, pharmacy-grade bags.
Kobelev even reassures potential customers that the mothers providing the breast milk are all tested to ensure the safety of consumption of the product. He also adds that only about 40 to 45 doses of drinks infused with breast milk will be served initially, with plans to ramp up production to about 1,000 products by the end of the year.
A single drink costs 650 rubles ($8 FJD).
