From a distance, you might mistake these bright green, ball-shaped packages for a truckload of piñatas. But trust us, these “meth-melons” are the last thing you’d want at a kid’s birthday party.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in San Diego recently uncovered a juicy surprise—watermelon-lookalikes stuffed with nearly two tons of meth, worth over $5 million.

Hidden among actual watermelons, the 1,220 meth packages were discovered when a 29-year-old driver from Mexico was pulled aside for a closer look. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t candy inside those melons.

After some quick tests, the drugs were seized, and the driver was handed over to Homeland Security for further investigation.

“As cartels get craftier, so do we,” said Rosa E. Hernandez, Port Director at Otay Mesa. And with this bust, it’s clear that no amount of fruit-themed trickery is going to fool them.
