If you had the option to get rid of what you feared the most by living alone for the rest of your life, would you do it?
A 71-year-old man from a village in Africa has been living in isolation for over 50 years because he decided as a teenager that his fear of women was too much to bear.
He built a tall fence around his whole house and has never left his property ever since he built the fence.
Instead of shunning him away, the women of the village look after the man by throwing clothes and food over the fence into his property to make sure that he has everything he needs.
“It’s strange that he fears women when it’s the women who are taking care of him. Even though he doesn’t want us to come near him, he still uses the things that we give to him.”
The morbid and irrational fear of women has an official name and even though this man has never been diagnosed, experts believe that he is suffering from gynophobia.
