Arguably, no couple has ever thrived under the bright lights of celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. They will likely go down in history as the biggest power couple of the modern age, even after their contentious divorce gets finalized. Yes, fans have been fascinated to find out just what really prompted this split — and, thankfully, Kim has come clean about it to the world.

With a combined net worth of a truly astonishing $2.1 billion, both Kim and Kanye were icons in their own right before they even got together. She is a reality-TV maven and fashion icon, and he — now legally known as Ye — has long been one of the most fiercely talented artists in music. Separately, they were great; together, they seemed unstoppable.

Yet, while their union provided unlimited fuel for tabloid gossip and celebrity photo spreads for years, they eventually came apart at the seams. In fact, they are now at a point where Kim wants their divorce proceedings pushed through the courts as quickly as possible, claiming Kanye has caused her “emotional distress.” But when did news of their divorce first hit?

On February 19, 2021, TMZ dropped the bombshell that Kim was divorcing Kanye following almost seven years of marriage. The outlet reported that she was aiming for joint custody of their four children, an arrangement to which sources said Kanye would agree. It also claimed they had a prenuptial agreement which neither was going to contest.

It seemed like both parties were resigned to their fate and weren’t going to cause much fuss. After all, the breakdown of their union had been heavily publicized for a long time leading up to the divorce announcement. For example, Kanye tweeted about divorce in July 2020. Oh, and he also referred to Kim’s mom as “Kris Jong-Un.” Yikes.

Kim tended to stay private and rarely responded to Kanye’s negativity in public. But this one she tackled directly on her Instagram story. She wrote, “Divorce is difficult enough on our children and Kanye’s obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all.”

While pledging to be more independent and not cater to the whims of her ex-husband, admirably Kim has so far made no attempt to cut Kanye out of their family life entirely. After all, they have children together, and he’s still their father. Kim revealed, “You could be so hurt or angry at your ex, but I think in front of the kids, it always has to be, ‘Your dad is the best.’”

I love the fact that after all this, she’s still being civil for the kids.
