As anticipation builds for the World of Wizardry, Harry Potter set to hit the screens once again, questions have been building on who is going to be playing the roles of our beloved Wizards, Witches and Muggles.

Veteran actor John Lithgow has been cast to play the role of Hogwarts Headmaster, Dumbledore. Casting an American is not the norm when it comes to the world of Wizardry. The Potter franchise’s historical policy was to source mostly from British and Irish talent pools but lay down the pitchforks and torches for a moment before you go all 1814. Nailing the British accent is nothing to an actor of Lithgow’s calibre (see: his turn as Churchill in The Crown), and it’s only fair that an American should take one of the most prestigious parts for once.

US actor John Lithgow has said he is “excited” to be playing Dumbledore in the forthcoming Harry Potter TV series, adding that the role is “going to define me for the last chapter of my life”.

The makers of the upcoming Harry Potter TV Series are currently putting together their cast and while no official announcements have been made yet, the veteran Oscar-nominated star has confirmed, he will play the Hogwarts headmaster.
