Rugby 7s has been removed from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland, delaying Fiji’s hopes of winning its first gold medal. The event in Glasgow will feature only 10 sports, as several, including rugby 7s, hockey, diving, badminton, and cricket, have been cut.
Organizers reduced the number of sports to make the event more affordable and easier to organize. The Commonwealth Games faced uncertainty in July 2023 when Victoria, Australia, withdrew from hosting due to financial problems.
