The weather this week had definitely caught us off-guard because no one one would have thought that Fiji Winter would be back so soon.

Most of us are used to the heat and sunny weather but during winter seasons, some of us struggle to stay warm.

Well, we got a couple of very helpful tips that would help you stay extra warm during this Fiji Winter Season.

Layer Your Clothing

  1. Base Layer: Wear moisture-wicking thermal underwear to keep sweat away from your body.
  2. Middle Layer: Add insulating layers like fleece or down jackets to trap heat.
  3. Outer Layer: Choose a waterproof and windproof coat to protect against the elements.

Focus on Key Areas

  1. Head: Wear a warm hat or beanie, as a significant amount of body heat is lost through the head.
  2. Hands: Use insulated gloves or mittens to keep your hands warm.
  3. Feet: Wear thick, moisture-wicking socks and insulated, waterproof boots.

Additional Clothing Tips

  1. Scarves and Neck Gaiters: Protect your neck and face from the cold wind.
  2. Thermal Socks: Opt for wool or synthetic materials that retain heat even when wet.
  3. Hand and Foot Warmers: Use disposable or rechargeable warmers for added heat.

Home and Shelter

  1. Insulate Your Home: Use weatherstripping around doors and windows, and consider adding insulation to your attic and walls.
  2. Use Space Heaters: Safely use portable heaters to add warmth to specific rooms.
  3. Electric Blankets: Use heated blankets or mattress pads for extra warmth in bed.

Stay Active

  1. Exercise: Engage in light physical activities to keep your blood circulating and body temperature up.
  2. Move Around: Avoid sitting still for long periods; get up and stretch regularly.

Nutrition and Hydration

  1. Hot Drinks: Consume warm beverages like tea, coffee, or hot chocolate to help maintain body temperature.
  2. Eat Regularly: Maintain a balanced diet with sufficient calories to fuel your body’s heat production.
  3. Eat A lot Of Soup If Possible: We can all agree on the fact that not only is soup healthy for us, but its also another one of those quick and hot meals that you can make at home, that can keep you warm as well.

In Case of Emergency

  1. Emergency Kit: Keep a winter survival kit in your car and home, including blankets, extra clothing, food, and water.
  2. Know the Signs of Hypothermia: Be aware of symptoms like shivering, confusion, and drowsiness, and seek warmth immediately if you notice these signs.

There you have it.

From the team to you, please stay as warm as possible and let’s look forward to those sunny weathers soon!
