An abundance of talent can be found in Fiji when it comes to Rugby but securing a contract to play professional rugby abroad is pretty hard to come by.
For 26-year-old Tomasi Mara from Qamea, Taveuni it has been a lifelong dream of his, with hopes of providing a comfortable life for his family he has strived tirelessly to achieve his goals. Starting out his rugby journey playing in school and then later on joining the Somosomo Baby Sharks Team he always dreamt of pursuing a career in the sport. A few years gone by and he has been able to secure a contract to play for the Western Sydney Two Blues in Paramatta, Australia, after playing for Bokobuka rugby club in Labasa.
After he received the confirmation call a few weeks ago, he then dedicated his success to the club’s support and encouragement to dream big. Mara is joining a club that has produced Australian rugby legends like Bob Brown and Phil Clements. Excited, thankful and humbled about this opportunity, he shared the news with his wife, who was overjoyed and filled with emotion. He flies to Australia to advance his rugby career and to make his dream come true.
Tomasi Mara like a lot of other Rugby players who have made it abroad are just fine examples of how hard work pays off.
