Students from John Wesley Primary School and John Wesley College have been safely evacuated after a fire started in the Home Economics classroom this morning, while students were sitting for their external exams.
The National Fire Authority has controlled the fire, but it has caused damage to the PEMAC classroom, industrial arts classroom, computer lab, and science lab.
The school believes that the fire might’ve been from students burning rubbish or smoking within school premises.
To prevent fires this festive season, ensure all lights, candles, and decorations are safely managed, never leave them unattended, and keep flammable items away from heat sources. Regularly check smoke alarms, keep fire extinguishers accessible, and follow safe cooking and fireplace practices to minimize fire risks.
